    Magpies: One magpie is unlucky - if you see one magpie you should nod your head three times to escape ill-luck. The following is a rhyme relating to magpies
    One for sorrow, two for joy
    Three for a wedding, four for a boy
    Five for Silver, six for gold
    Seven for a secret never to be told.
    Swallows: If the swallow flies high, good weather will follow.
    If low, storm will follow
    Crows: Crows flying over a hill "through other" (in an irregular fashion, betoken storm.
    Magpies: Three magpies near a house are a sign of death
    Swans: If a person shoots a swan he will find one of his cows dead in the morning.
