When finished he puts the iron into a tub of water and leaves it there for some minutes, so that it may be handled when cool.The hammer is lighten than the sledge and has a flat head. It is used for driving and for drawing nails.The most important article is the anvil, and it is made from iron, it stands on the floor not far from the hearth and mid-way between both side-walls. When passing by the forge we hear the chinking of irons on the anvil and see little sparks and splanks(?) of fire flying out the chimney. It is mostly at night that the blacksmith does his work, during the daytime he works on his farm.(continues on next page)
