- Long ago the people used to grow flax. They used to plough the field and then sow the seed. It would remain in the ground for some time. Flax is nearly the same as oats but the flax has a darker head on it. It is reaped like oats. Then it is tied into sheaves and stacked. Then the heads were taken off and stept in a boghole for about a month. Then it is lifted and dried. When it is dry it is cleaned and brought to the weaver. Then it is woven into thread. Then it is woven into linen. I have a table-cloth at home which was made out of flax. There is no flax grown in this district now.
