When a person dies he is buried on the third day. The corpse is kept in the house the first day and it is removed to the church on the second evening. This was not always the case. Before the year 1900 the corpse was kept in the house two days and then it was buried without carring the remains to the church at all.
At the wake all the neighbours came and they got snuff pipes and tobacco, and drink. Sometimes disgraceful scenes to place.
Then the church ordered that the remains should be taken to the church on the second evening.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
