    clipped hair in hip in cattle, and in horse's head - two chops of scissors. The halter was given away for luck in selling a horse. Usually the seller bought a cheap halter and put it on the horse and kept the old one.
    Some cattle were bought clear others with a luck penny. They spat on the luck money when giving it. The luck penny was usually 6d on bonhams 1/6 on calves 1/- on sheep 2/6 on a cow and 10/- on a horse - anything over £3. Fairs were held in villages as well as in towns. Some Buyers went to farmers' houses a few nights before the fair, especially if there was a rise in cattle.
    The village fairs are few now owing to lack of conveyance to station.
    In Listowel the Cattle Fair is held in the square, but for big fairs it extends into the streets. The Bonham and Pig Fairs are held in the Market Place, also the
