    It is believed that forge water will cure warts. I also heard that it is good for cattle, and to refresh and strengthen the smith if he washes in it.
    If the sparks which fly from the red hot iron are gathered when cool and given to pigs in their feed they will prevent or cure convulsions. If the smith leaves his hands on top of the water in which he cools the irons while another person pegs a cinder into the water, that smith will never be sick or sore..Some people still believe that rats never come near a house where a smith lives
    In olden times people gave a cake or an ounce of tea to the smith as payment instead of money. Sixpence was the smiths highest charge.
