- There lived in the townland of Letterfine a man named Smith. Another man called Flynn from Sligo came to visit Smith. One day they made a bet of a shilling as to which of them would succeed in swimming to the Island of Loughscur lake and back, a distance of about a mile and a half. Flynn started out, he swam to the Island and was half-way back when he got cramps and was unable to swim further. He was drowning. Smith sent for a boat but when it arrived Flynn was drowned. His body was found sometime afterwards.
A gentleman called Mr. White lived in Carrick-on-Shannon in a large residence One day the house took fire accidently. The fire was not noticed until there was a lot of harm done. A young baby was up-stairs asleep in a cot and the people of the house thought it would be impossible to save the baby as the room was already in flames. A man named Patrick McManus from Drumshanbo went into the burning house and brought out the baby to the joyful parents. Mr White(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
