- In the olden days the people made candles out of rushes and grease. In every house they had spinning wheels which they used for spinning wool, for socks shirts and shawls. The people depended solely on their produce and in order to do this they had a method of their own for manufacturing their produce.
They used to grind their corn between two free-stones and made oaten cakes on the hearth stone. They also grated the potatoes and made cakes of it called boxty cakes. This custom is still carried on in(continues on next page)
