- How clothes were made out of flax long ago in my district. First the flax was cut then tied into sheaves and then stooked. After a week it was threshed and afterwards thrown into a bog drain.Twenty one days later it was taken out and the sheaves were untied and was then left to bleach. When it was properly bleached it was again tied into larger sheaves and then put on a loft. A while later it was taken down and put on beams over a great fire. When it was properly dried it was beaten with butles or scutched by a party of young girls. When their work was over the girls would have a dance called the scutcher's(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
