    Note (1) I heard another version of this story from Jas. Gildea Corlasco and it is practically similar to Owen McGann's version related above except that James said that Mahon was buried in Farnaught old graveyard in Gortlettragh

    In the spot where Mahon was shot a "fir tree" was planted and is to be seen to day. It is locally known as "Mahons Tree" It grows in the townland of Gulrusk about 3 miles north of Mohill in the middle of a Bog owned by the Colreaveys of Gulrusk No other tree of the species grows near it so it is a kind of landmark in this district.
