Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)kiln over a fire. A flake is something like a gate with rungs to hold up the flax to dry it. Then it was beetled by the hand with a wooden beetle. The beetle was five inches in width, and fifteen inches long with the handle on the end of it. It was then beaten with a scutching handle. The old people called this scutchin it. The handle was about two foot long, and about half a foot wide, with a stalk on the end of it. The stalk was bout nine inches wide and three foot long with a strong sole to the end of it, that a person would leave his foot on while he would be scutching to keep it steady.
After it was scutched it was hackled to separate the toe from the fla. This was done with a hackle which is a flat(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
