- In former times, people made candles from rushes and oil. A man from Beaghbeg named Mahon made baskets from sallies. Hugh O'Neill from Carrigaline made nails and spades. When cows died, the people took off the skin and brought it to a man called a tanner. He made the skin into leather. There lived a man in Cornafest long ago, named Kieran who tanned skin.
Jim Kiernan of Carrigallen makes barrels and churns. No whips were made in my district long ago.
