- In a place called Ballingarry about two miles north of Ballyheigue a great fit was once performed. A bunch of local people was playing games near a place now called "Shaker's Leap". Among them was a man called Shaker Cantillon who was a great jumper. A man among the crowd bet "Shaker" he would jump the ravine, a split between two rocks with a drop of hundreds of feet. "Shaker" took the bet and ran towards the ravine and jumped clear across it. If he fell it meant certain death but he did not and so won his bet. The place to this day is called "Shaker's Leap".
