- I haven't a churn at home but I often saw one. It is about three or four feet in height and one foot wide on top and about two feet in the bottom. It is twenty years old. Butter is made in it once a week in Winter and three times a week in the Summer. Every one in the house takes a turn at churning. If a stranger comes into while the churn is taking place he also helps. It takes a half an hour to make the butter. The churning is done with the hand. The churn dash is moved upwards and downwards. The butter forms a lump and then the people know it is made.
