    shopkeeper and when spoken to about paying it he turned surly and used threats. The shopkeeper got a civil bill issued which had to be signed by a magistrate and as several of the latter refused to sign it the shop keeper went to Perceval who signed it. It was then delivered to O Rourke by the shopkeeper and when he saw Perceval's name to it he at once set off for Templehouse to have satisfaction out of Perceval. On arriving there he was told that the Colonel had gone to Sligo to a meeting of the Grand Jury of which he was a member. O Rourke done nothing but turn his horse and set off at a mad gallop for Sligo and overtook Perceval as he was going up the steps of the Courthouse. O Rourke was so enraged that his first greeting he gave Perceval was three hard strokes on the shoulder. As duelling was the order of the day and the honour and reputation of a gentleman had to be upheld he immediately demanded an apology. "Apologise to whom is it you
