  1. About sixty years ago a man was fishing in Ballyheigue strand. He saw a mermaid sitting on a rock close by combing her hair. Her cap was on the rock beside her so he snapped the cap and ran home. The mermaid followed him because when her cap was gone she had no power. She stayed in his house and some time after the two got married. She lived with him for years and they had four children. All this time the cap was hidden in a loft in the house.
