  1. About ten miles from Sligo there is a beautiful mansion owned by the Gore Booths, an old English family.
    There was also a castle in Quay St. where the Sligo town hall now stands, built by the Cromwellians.
    In Sligo town there are the ruins of an old Abbey. It was built by Maurice Fitzgearld in the year 1236. he gave it with a considerable portion of land to the monks of the Dominicians Order. During the rebellion of 1641 a number of Irish soldiers settled in the monastry and killed all the English soldiers settled in the monastry and killed all the English soldiers
