The way they prepare the ground for the potatoes is first of all they fince about an acre of land, then the cut the rushes off it and spread manure out on it, then the farmers take their ploughs and plough it. When they have the ridges prepared they plant the potatoes. When the little stalk is just beginning to peep its head over the clay, the men take their shovels and cover them. When the stalks are big they are sprayed. The farmers round about this place never set the potatoes in drills they always make ridges. Long ago the old people used to plough the land with wooden ploughs, but they do not use them nowadays.
