- Crosses are still made in honour of St Martin. They are made from straw and placed outside on the roof. It is unlucky to put out ashes on new year's day, it is also unlucky to throw out water. If a person was churning and another person go into the house, and if they did not take a drass it is said that they would take away the butter. If a person got the loan of anything on may day it is said that their luck goes. Blood is spilt on St Martin's day in honour of St Martin. No wheel should turn on St Martin's day. Crosses are made on St Bridget's day and hung up over the picture of the Sacred Heart in honour of St Bridget.
