- The district around here according to local tradition was inhabited by thieves who made raids on other parts of the country. They carried off any valuable things they laid hands on and hid them in caves and under rocks around Highwood and Ballinleg.
There is one place near the Black Lough in Highwood known as Corrigeenacartha which means robber's rock. It is said that they hid the things they stole in or around this rock and in the caves near hand.
