Pat (the giant) in business for himself, going to all the local fairs which very soon made him independent. After a short time he started exhibiting in all the towns up to London where he settled and became wealthy. He walked about for exercise after midnight. It is recorded one night that a watchman seeing him, lift off the top of a street lamp to light his pipe was carried off unconscious. On another occasion when in his own carriage he was followed on a lonely road by a highway man and ordered out to deliver but on alighting, the robber drove his horse and fled.
After twenty-five years he returned to London where he died of consumption aged 47 years.
