    reign of James Sir William Taafe got it. He was a Catholic and an officer who distinguished in the Wars of Elizabeth.Taafes left it in 1750 on account of the Catholic persecution.
    It then fell into the hands of a Protestant named Fitzmaurice who brought linen weavers down from the North and started the linen trade here. After a time in 1850 Gore Booth bought it and he held up to a short time ago when the Parish Priest Canon Quinn bought it and it is now converted into a tennis court.
    It is a hundred and fifty feet square and the walls are ten feet thick. Six majestic ivy grown towers rise gracefully up from the walls, but nothing of its former beauty remains now but it is still an interesting link with the historical past.
