horse. He struck the horse then and at once the horse changed into a bouchalaun again. The man brought Pat into the sandpit and made him sit down on a long seat. The circus continued on all the night, and Pat was kept there all the night. A fairy woman gave a purse of gold to Pat and she also gave him a whistle. She told him if anyone came to steal the gold to blow the whistle and they would come to his assistance. She told him not to tell anyone about the treasure. Pat went home and told everyone about the fine treasure which he got. The next night he went out to the sandpit thinking he would get another purse of gold. A man came out of the sandpit and struck a bouchalaun and all at once it changed into a horse. He followed Pat and brought him into the sandpit. The circus was going on the same as the night before. Pat fell asleep, and when he awoke, there was nothing to be seen. All the gold and the whistle was taken.
