- I heard the following from my father whose name is James Benson. Severe Snow:
In the Spring of nineteen eighteen a very severe snow storm was experienced. For a few days previous to the storm the weather was very calm and dark.At about two o'clock on a Friday afternoon in the month of February the snow stared. The snow was fine and dry, and was driven by a sharp easterly wind. It continued to snow all night and in the morning the whole country side was one vast white sheet. In some places the snow was fourteen feet deep. The next night frost set in, and the country was under its white mantle for seven weeks. Many sheep and cattle were lost during this time. My great grandmother who died two years ago aged ninety six years said(continues on next page)- Collector
