“About the year 1780 there lived in the town of Tralee a celebrated card player.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The innocent card player from the savage murderous attacks of the evil spirit. At last the priest triumphed and the evil spirit was driven through the ground in a flame of fire, leaving as evidence behind him a large deep hole in a field called (Paire and Drabail) or the devil's field in the townland Ballyard, Tralee. The priest died some weeks afterwards and is buried in the ruin of of the burial ground at Rath, Tralee. His name and years are engraved on a stone of the ruin over the grave. Some strange devices are as well carved on the stone to commemorate his struggle against the evil spirit and his saving of the unfortunate card player. The priest's name was Fr. O'Neill.- Bailitheoir
