In the hall I noticed a woman crying with a child in her arms. I asked her what was the matter and she replied that the Giant has ordered the child to be killed, and served as a pie for his dinner.
She then proceeded to explain that the giant who owned the castle lived on human flesh and that I was fortunate not to meet him first when I so foolishly entered his castle.
She then asked me to suggest a means of saving the child's life. I told her to cut off one of the childs fingers and put it in a pie made of young swine. Then if the giant passed any remavle to show him the finger.
She did so, and it was scarcely done when I heard a rattle at the hall door. You are done said the woman. Your only chance is to come into a room which is full of dead bodies, take off your clothes and pretend to be one of them.
I did so, and I was not long there when I heard the giant demanding the pie. She gave it to him. no sooner had he tasted it then he remarked 'It tastes(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
