do the money was bet and Eogan was asked when he would have his man. He said in half an hours time. After a relapse of a half an hour no man was coming forward to sing the song and they demanded the bet from Eogan. Eogan asked for pen ink and paper and another half an hour and that he would get through it himself. He there and then composed Caisred na Blárnan[?] which was an entirely a superior composition to that which the farmer had sung and so won the bet. He then tendered to the officer that part of his money which he got from him but he did not accept it. He told the officer that he would not leave the town until he would spend the money on his regiment. Next day the officer granted him his liberty saying nobody would see a man of such tallents handcuffed by him going to Cork city as a prisoner.
