- Long ago candles were made in this district. They were made of wax and cords. They also made their own baskets from the salleys twisted in each other. They also made spades from wood and iron. The gates long ago were made of wood but now they are made of iron. The fire cranes long ago were made of wood but now they are made of iron. A piece of wood was left down straight against the wall. Another piece was left in the centre to hang the pot on. Long ago there were no slated houses like nowadays - they were all thatched. This is how the thatching was done. Straw was got and made into bundles. Then the thatcher went up a ladder and started to thatch. Soap was made by boiling fat and washing soda together until it would become solid enough to be used.
