  1. Local Place Names
Soldiers rock. It got its name because the soldiers fought at a battle in it.
Mass garden. The time of the trouble there was Mass said in it and that is how it got its name.
Cavan. The first time we got the field we had potatoes in it and the seed came from Caven.
There is a rock in Cornanure called the bloody rock because there was a priest kill in it while saying mass and the track of his knee and hand is in it yet.

  2. Lucky and unlucky days
If you wash your hair on a Good Friday you will never have a sore head the whole year round.
If you cry on a Monday morning you will have no luck during that week.
If you throw out dish water on a New year's day you will have no luck the whole year round.
Good Friday is a lucky day for ploughing.
It is unlucky to meet a red haired woman first thing on a Christmas morning.
If your shoe opens it is a sign of good luck and someone is thinking of you.
