    Long ago the people did not own the land, it all belonged to men called landlords. They were mostly English men who owned big estates. Nowadays there are no landlords, the land belongs to the Land Commission.
    The name of the landlord who was in this district was Mr. Henry Fitzgerald. He owned four town lands. This family owned the land for a couple of centuries, and it was handed down from one generation to another. Some of the landlords were good and some of them were bad. Some of the landlords built schools for the children to be educated. Before that the children were taught behind hedges and the school was called a hedge school. If the
