- (continued from previous page)Dumplings were made by mixing potatoes & oatmeal and rolled into lumps & but (sic) into boiling water. They were eaten from plates and they were cut up and eaten to butter.
A young goat or kid was killed & put in a crock of water.
At first tea & currant bread was novelty for children for Easter Sunday.
Rye bead was made & was sweeter than others.
Boxty bread was made from potatoes & flour or oat meal or rye meal.
Bread was made immediately before tea & often tea was wet before pan was put on the fire.
The pedlars would carry sand broken down fine from sandstone & they gave it for pint tin of oat meal. It was used for scrubbing tables etc. - In her mother's time they made tea from mint. The mint was gathered in the summer time and dried. It was chopped up fine & made like tea.
She also said they made the "Boxty" from new potatoes with water squeezed out of them- Informant
