  1. Mullandoy is a place of history fame because there were a good many battles fought there. Hugh O'Neill marched from Clontibret and came to Castleblayney and burned the half of it. He then went over to Mullandoy and fought a battle against the English. There is a mound to show where Hugh O'Neill stood when he was driving the English away. They were defeated and they fled for their lives. Long ago there was a trench round Mullandoy and when any enemies came they could not get across. Hugh O'Neill and his army stayed on the in-side at Mullandoy and the English stayed on the outside side in the Churchill grounds. There was a draw bridge across the canal and it was lifted to keep the English from getting across.
