  1. Many years ago there lived a farmer who had three sons. On a certain evening as it was growing late he told his eldest son to repair to the paddock and bring in their black horse and stable him for the night as the gathering clouds and rising wind portended a night of storm.
The boy went out to perform his errand but returned a few moments later rather badly frightened stating that as he was placing the bridle on the horse, a big black man appeared from no where and told him he could not have the horse until he would play him a game of cards. The boy was too terrified to answer him, but dropping the bridle ran for the house as fast as his legs could carry him.
The father then instructed his second son to take in the horse. He, with certain misgivings, went to the field, but on the black man requesting a game of cards he also fled for home as fast as possible.
