    Riddles.
    I In my father's garden there is a pretty plot
    Four and twenty maids all at a trot
    A baby in each arm and a bright blue hat
    If you guessed till to-morrow you could'nt guess that.
    Ans. A Field of Flax in Blossom
    (Got from Patk Flood Ballinahome Emyvale aged 70 yrs.)
    II. Riddle me riddle me randy bo
    My father gave me seed to sow
    The seed was black and the ground was white
    Riddle me that and I'll give you my pipe
    Ans Ink and paper to write
    (Heard generally)
    III Black and white went up the hill
    Black came down but white stayed still.
    Ans. A black hen laid an egg on the hill
    IV. Patch upon patch without any stitches
    Riddle me that and I'll buy you a pair of breeches.
    Ans A Cabbage
    V I ran till I got it, I say down and looked for it I couldn't find it so I got up and ran away with it. Ans A thorn in the foot
    VI. As I went through guttery gap
    I met my uncle Davy
    I took off his cap and sucked his blood
    And left him lying "aisy"
    Ans A bottle of Poteen .
