- Saturday is supposed to be an unlucky day for doing many things such as moving from one house to another. The old saying is "A Saturday's flit is a short sit". It is also said that Saturday is an unlucky day for getting up after been sick. Friday is said to be a lucky day for "flitting", for to start on a journey, or to get up out of bed after been sick. Although it is lucky for some things Friday is an unlucky day for getting married. It is also said that the thirteenth day of each month is unlucky. If potatoes are not in before the first of May and the corn is not in before the cuckoo comes it is unlucky.
Tradition says that the "Old Cow" boosted when March went out that she would live for another year; April then borrowed three days of March to skin her; so that these three days in the beginning of April are always very severe and cold.
