    very strong black sallies which are split and both ends stuck in the ground a few feet apart, thus forming a semi-circle.
    When the ribs are left some time in this position they are lifted, but they have retained the shape thus forming a hollow in the basket.
    The rods used are light sallies. After a week or two the basket-maker proceeds with his work. In the centre of the hoop he ties the longest rib and a few inches away he ties another rib. He now takes a sallie rod and works it between each alternate rib, and and continues to do so for a few
