    and was instrumental in bringing about many reforms, which benefited the tenant farmer. He did splendid work on behalf of his profession of journalism, which gave the Press many privileges, they did not hitherto possess.
    He was one of the Irish Members who were imprisoned with Kilmainham jail with Parnell. Throughout all the stormy periods in Irish History Mr. Tully made his famous paper "The Roscommon Herald" a mighty weapon in the struggle for the land.
    Scorning the penal enactments, he attacked the autocratic landlords, and all who opposed the people's call for agrarian redress, without fear, favour or affectation, and soon his paper was feared by those in high places, as much as it was acclaimed by the poor tenant farmers, whose battles, he was fighting so ably.
