  2. Rush Candles

    On the sixth of January long ago the people used to light rush candles, and even to the present day the people light those rush candles.
    This is how they are made. First the rushes are cut. Next they are peeled. They they are left to dry. Then they are steeped in gravy. Then the candles are left to dry a while. The(n) woman of the house makes a little cake and sticks 12 candles into it and each person choses a candle for himself. Then the candles are lighted and the first candle that quenches, it is said that the person who owned that candle would die first.
