- Some years ago a famous poet lived in this district about one mile from Thomastown. His name was Patrick Connors. The gift of Poetry was handed down to him by his ancestors as his father and grandfathers were great poets.
He made a great number of songs, and the names of some of them were:- "Kilkenny by the Nore", "My native Jerpoint", and "Up the Balck and Amber. He made these songs showing how much he loved his own County and district. He once competed in verse-making with another poet. Their verses were sent away to Dublin to be judged, and Patrick Connors was the best. The people were not afraid of him because he never made up bad songs about them. He had powers, and he was able to banish cats and mice.- Bailitheoir
