    lands surrounding the abbey as they did elsewhere. They drained the bogs and marshes and reclaimed the mountain/moors and thus converted a wild, barren district into a fertile district which produced splendid crops.
    The monks helped the poor and the stranger. Every benighted traveller found welcome and refreshment within its walls. Its guesthouse was never empty or closed. Food and shelter were always available for those in need, and hospitality was dispensed with a lavish hand.
    About five miles north of Graigue in the Barrow valley stood the abbey of Killenny. It was also a Cistercian foundation on which Dermot O'Rian of Idrone had bestowed large grants of land. It was situated at a place now called Barrowmount near the village of Goresbridge. Nothing remains of this foundation except a few ruined walls and grassy knolls. It is said that the present town of Goresbridge was built with the stones of Killenny Abbey. The monks of Killenny evidently did not prosper as well as the Duiske community and eventually the abbey passed
