2. Festival Customs

   Nearly in every district the people hold processions on some of the Festival Days. On St. Stephens Day the Wren Boys go around gathering money and according to what they get they divide it. Long ago when the people would get the money they would go off to the Public Houses an drink, but nowadays it is different. The Wren Boys sing the following song:-

   "The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
   On St. Stephens Day she was caught in the furze
   Although she is small her family is great
   Call down the wren daddy and give here a treat."
