    It is evident therefore that Broomfield assumed the dimensions of a hamlet in those days, and on account of the wealthy and prosperous Mr Henry living in Bracca, and calling his place Broomfield, the name was applied to the immediate district.

    I learned from Mrs McMahon, of Dian (who is now dead), that an old name for Broomfield was "Na Ballogaí". Later on Broomfield was known as Cor na Sglátaí. This latter name was applied to the place in which the old chapel was built, probably due to the fact that the chapel
