    being extremely porous readily absorbed tallow and accordingly the rush cores were thrown into the melted fat, tallow or such substance and when the core of the rush had become fully soaked with tallow etc. the core so soaked was taken out and left in a cool place to harden and so the work continued until a supply of candles was made sufficient to last the household for a considerable time.
    The candlestick specially made for the burning of these slender candles is to be found in nearly every house up to the present time.
