- There were different kinds of bread made in Crossard district fifty years ago.
Oatenmeal bread.
This bread was made from oatenmeal, flour and water. The oatenmeal and flour were mixed together and then the water was added. Before it was baked it was cut into squares and baked in an oven for about ten minutes. When it was cold it was ready for use
Potato cakes.
These were made from potatoes which were boiled and then mashed. The flour and potatoes were mixed together and wetted with buttermilk. Potato cakes were eaten hot
Wheaten bread.
