  1. About thirty-five or forty years ago a very funny incidence occured in the townland of Smutternagh. Two youths named Martin Farrell and Patrick McLoughlin planned to go out fishing. The two boys were well used of the water, and good swimmers. On going out they invited an elderly man named Patrick McLoughlin also but for a distinction called him "Goodboy", the other (young) Patrick being nick-named "Archy". The two young fellows (Martin and Archy) were delighted to have the Goodboy, for they intended to have a fine trick on him. They all enjoyed the row, but after a while the two boys decided to pull in to some Island and go searching for wild duck's eggs. They advanced towards Cady Island, an island on Lough Key on which no female foot can trod, and on that account no one generally likes to go near it. They pulled in and went round the Island, looking for the eggs planning all the time what they should do.
At length, they decided to start for off while their elder companion was on the opposite shore of the island, and rowing on their best they landed on their own shore
