   The great cheering and noise of the pursuit could be clearly heard, but soon these sounds became faint and still more faint till at length they died away in the distance At the same time the flame sunk lower and lower and went out altogether just as the last sounds of the pursuit ceased. The night settled down at dark and quite as it was at first and in the morning
