  1. It is believed the forts which are to be seen scattered throughout this country
    have survived since the time of the tribes in Ireland. Each tribe had a king and they were constantly fighting so that life and property were always in danger. People built their houses of wood and made a thick circular dyke of clay around them for protection. The houses have disappeared but the dykes remain and are called forts. Caves are generally found under the Forts. They were probably used as hiding places for precious
