  1. Festival customs
    Many festival customs are carried on in this district during the year. On St. Stephen's Day all the young boys gather together and go round from house to house. They play and dance in each house and the people of the houses give them money.
    On St. Brigid's Day grown up men gather together and go round from vilge to village and they play, sing and dance in honour of St. Brigid. These men are called "Brideogs."
    In St. Patrick's Day everyone wears shamrock. The old people meet in the nearest town and they take some drink in honour of the festival. Many who keep the pledge all the year take drinks on St. Patrick's day. This is called wetting the shamrock.
    During Shrove most of the marriages of the year take place. Pan cakes are
