- In former times there were many old houses in this district. They were made of clay and daub, with a round sidewall or what was known as a hip sidewall in the end of the house. They were roofed with hedge timber and thatch. The people got thatch for their houses by sowing oats in Spring. This was reaped in Autumn and threshed and the straw was used for thatch. Reeds and rushes were also used.
These houses contained two rooms. A bed in the corner of the kitchen was very common. The fire place was always at the gable wall. There was not any chimneys on some(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
