- Fairs are held locally in Strokestown and they are generally held in the streets and the sheep are brought and sold in the fair green. Fairs are also held in Longford, Elphin and Roscommon and the farmers of this district often go to these fairs.
There is a cattle fair once every month and a pig fair once a month also.
When a farmer has a good deal of good cattle for sale a buyer often comes and buys them on the land.
The principal fairs held in Strokestown are the May, October and November fairs and taxes are paid at the May and November fairs. Anyone who buys cattle at these fairs has to pay four pence(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
